ABSTRACT
Chapter 4 considered three commercially successful texts that illustrate typical features of early work within the American tradition. This chapter considers subsequent work from the last decade that demonstrates some of the ways that these structural inadequacies have continued to operate. It suggests that they reflect real and substantive difficulties, even among some of the most experienced practitioners. The point, overall, is that we need to fully understand these approaches in order to find more productive ways forward.
