ABSTRACT

In Chapter 3 we looked at some of the practical considerations that you will need to be aware of if you are to carry out surveys. Here, we shall take a similar approach to the use of interviews as a qualitative research tool. One aspect we need to establish is the difference between a survey and an interview. It is possible to explore the same research question with both techniques, although one tool may be more appropriate than the other depending upon: facilities (such as time and money); sampling criteria and the population we are researching; and the type of data we wish to uncover.
