ABSTRACT

Moral, personal and civic education are closely related areas but each raises distinct policy issues. One feature that they all share, however, is that they are thought to be practical subjects with a contested theoretical component. Another is that there is disagreement concerning whether or not they are most appropriately dealt with as a part of child-rearing in the home or as part of formal education within school. What are the relationships between these three areas? In this chapter we will address these questions.
