ABSTRACT

When investigating issues regarding learning and teaching styles it is easy to become overwhelmed by the variety of terminology used and the quagmire of inventories and indexes available which claim to measure some aspect of your learning style. In regard to terminology, there are learning styles, cognitive styles, learning strategies, teaching styles and instructional strategies. It is hoped that by the end of this chapter the differences in terms of what these concepts mean will be apparent. This chapter will attempt to make sense of some theories of learning style, and address the limitations of measurement devices as well as exploring how learning and teaching styles can lead to an improvement in learning effectiveness.
