ABSTRACT
Translation is the act of taking a text in one language, known as the source language, and re-creating it in another language, referred to as the target language. This transfer must be done in such a way that the meaning of the source text is accurately rendered using the terminology and style that are appropriate in the target language. When expressed in this simple fashion, it may sound as if translation is a relatively straightforward task, but those of you who have had even a small amount of experience of trying to translate a specialized text will be aware that there are many challenges involved. For instance, you may have difficulty locating an equivalent, or you may be faced with choosing between several possible equivalents. And, if you are lucky enough to find the terms you need, you may still have trouble knowing how to put the whole text together in a style that is appropriate to the LSP.
