ABSTRACT

The first investigation revealed a relationship between the patient’s clinical state and the incidence of pressure sores. It was shown that his general condition, particular aspects of his condition and, in some cases, the nature of his illness exert considerable influence in determining whether or not pressure sores will develop. Important though these clinical aspects may be, they are not the only factors concerned in the production of pressure sores: indeed, if they were there would be no prophylactic measures available to us other than those resulting from the treatment of the patient’s illness and the improvement in his general condition.
