ABSTRACT

This account of the setting up of the Research Project ‘The Study of Nursing Care’ provides an introduction to the thinking behind the initiation of the Project and to the reports of the individual studies carried out by the Research Assistants during the first four years of the Project. It serves to emphasise that whilst each study isolates a critical area in nursing care and establishes facts in that area, none of the studies can alone achieve the aims of the Project. It is hoped that the studies will lead to the development of measuring devices which when brought together will serve as indicators of quality in nursing care.
