ABSTRACT

The conditions under which the research assistants should receive scholarships or be employed was discussed in great detail. After wide consultation it was agreed that they should be seconded from the Health Service on full salary.Where their present salary fell below that mid-way up the ward sister’s grade their starting salary was made up to that level. By this system of secondment, superannuation rights were maintained and Whitley Council conditions of service could be applied. In this way, the Project could hope to attract experienced nurses of good calibre who would not be at a disadvantage whilst participating in the Project, and who could then readily return to the service after two years or proceed to further research if their qualifications and inclinations lay that way.
