ABSTRACT
The present enquiry is an attempt to understand the challenges which contemporary Catholic secondary schools face in their mission, as expressed through research interview accounts arising from the collaborative involvement of sixty headteachers in London,Liverpool and Birmingham and of fifty Year 10 pupils in five London schools. In addition to these central participants, research accounts were also obtained from ten other professionals with extensive experience of Catholic education.
