ABSTRACT
Individual settlements can be highly centralized (the traditional pattern) with a concentration of economic activities and hence jobs in the centre, and with residential facilities spread around. Alternatively, most economic activities can be decentralized into subcentres with employment areas and their related residential areas around them (i.e. district settlements) or the employment areas can be distributed amongst smaller neighbourhood residential areas.
