ABSTRACT
Brief references have already been made in this book to quality system standards, in particular DEF STAN 05-21: Quality control system requirements for industry and BS 5750:1987: Quality systems. It is now necessary to examine these and other standards in greater detail and to form a clear understanding of their subject matter and terminology. In the paragraphs which follow, certain passages from standards will be selected for analysis and discussion. Selection is not possible without omission, and for a full understanding of the standards there is no substitute for careful study of the original documents.
