ABSTRACT

I look now at writing for well-known journals like the New Scientist and Scientific American; also for technical magazines catering for business and trade users, hobbyists and DIY enthusiasts in areas like computing, motoring, flying, photography and home improvements. These publications have a stronger journalistic flavour, and often a larger circulation, than the professional technical and trade journals that I covered in section 8.4.2. Much of the material for the wider-circulation periodicals is supplied by staff journalists or other writers known to the editor, but many have openings for topical items from freelance contributors.
