ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with the JCT Standard Form of Building Contract with Contractor's Design 1998 Edition incorporating Amendments 1 and 2 hereinafter referred to as JCT 98 WCD. However, it is suggested that JCT 98 WCD works best when the Employer's Requirements are kept to the bare minimum of detail commensurate with achieving the Employer's aims, thereby affording the maximum degree of exibility to the Contractor in completing the design. The granting of extensions of time is a duty under JCT 98 PWQ which particularly requires the Architect to act as quasi-arbitrator in that it requires that he exercise skill and independent judgment in order to resolve a matter as between two parties to a contract.
