ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at the main materials available in the market for use as building insulation. Though there are a wide variety of insulation materials available, they are not all suitable to every application. For instance, a brick faced cavity wall may well let in a fair amount of moisture, and so any material used in this situation must be able to withstand the effects of this. The choice of construction method may thus determine which insulants are chosen-or, indeed, vice versa.
