ABSTRACT
The previous chapter described the nature or basic structure of timber, whereas this and subsequent chapters are concerned with the behaviour of timber, defined in terms of its properties and performance. Most important of all in these chapters is the presentation of timber behaviour in terms of its nature by adopting a material science approach to the subject.
