ABSTRACT
A major reason why play provision has suffered from under resourcing over the years is because it has normally been made for political rather than developmental reasons. In fact play is a very complex phenomenon – as the following chapter confirms – a phenomenon that needs sensitive and informed playwork facilitation if its developmental and evolutionary benefits are to be realised.
