ABSTRACT

Now that we have considered some important background material, the next two chapters address the “meat” of the book: how drugs (and toxins) work in the body. First, we will look at some general principles of pharmacology, the science of drug delivery and action. As we do so we will move again to thinking about individual molecules and how they act on a molecular level. Then, in Chapter 7, we’ll use a case study approach to apply all that we have learned to understand how several different plant drugs are believed to work.
