ABSTRACT
Zero-energy buildings are not realistic, but low energy buildings are. Even if a building is designed to provide a comfortable environment all year around through passive means, it will still require energy for lighting at night, to operate equipment and appliances, and to provide hot water. In most cases, some energy will also be required to moderate and ventilate the internal environment.
