Validity and management studies

Of all the concepts developed in social research, perhaps none has been as important and as problematic as ‘validity’. While there is general agreement that research studies should be in some sense valid, just what that sense is or should be is open to argument. As Wolcott (1990, p. 125) has put it, validity has become ‘a desirable but ambiguously defined criterion for all research’.
