ABSTRACT

The deep-rooted cultures of sewing and inventiveness that diaspora fashion entrepreneurs have emerged from, the commerce they have developed and the negotiative styles that represent their modus operandi (as discussed in Chapters 3 and 4), are also present amongst the diasporic seamstresses who sew from home. They use exactly the same improvisational techniques in their sewing crafts. As I have described in the previous chapter, these design aesthetics had their basis in the domestic domains of previous economies of settlement prior to migration to Britain.
