ABSTRACT

Repatriation pulsates at the heart of Rastafari’s doctrinal dimension, as earlier chapters recognize, and even though many contemporary brethren and sistren work for, as well as speak of, rehabilitation, Rastas have always made a point of returning to Africa. Some have made it back to Ethiopia, home of His Imperial Majesty Emperor Haile Selassie I, and Erin C. MacLeod’s recent work documents this quest. 1 Other Rastas have taken up residence in Ghana, the first country south of the Sahara to secure freedom from European colonial powers. 2 Ghanaian Rastafari represent the focus of this last chapter’s greater part.
