ABSTRACT

When a young person has a disordered subjectivity, the question can be posed:

‘How is the young person involved in the constitution of that subjectivity?’ To

respond to this question this chapter turns to the third of Foucault’s (1983a) three

axes of genealogy, the technologies of the self. In so doing, an analysis is made

of the relationship of these technologies of the self to truth and power and the

FRQVWUXFWLRQRIVXEMHFWLYLW\,QWKLVFKDSWHUWKHVWRULHVIURPWKH¿YH\RXQJSHRSOH Rachel, Kris, Josh, Ben and Jemma, are used to provide examples of the effects

of truth, power and the self.
