ABSTRACT
The above quote provides a tantalising invitation to think differently about con-
duct disorder. To paraphrase Foucault, what would it mean to think of truths such
DVFRQGXFWGLVRUGHUQRWDVVLJQL¿HUVRIPHQWDOGLVRUGHUEXWWRGUDZRQ)RXFDXOW ‘as practices that systematically form the objects of which they speak’? Such an
analysis would paint a quite different picture of conduct disorder: rather than a
GH¿QLWLYHO\VFLHQWL¿FWUXWKLWFRXOGEHJUDVSHGDVVRPHWKLQJPDGHSRVVLEOHYLD certain discursively constituted practices.
