ABSTRACT
In this chapter we shall outline the main principles for formulating public measures utilising the technical control possibilities for the reduction of pollutant residuals that were discussed in Chapter 4. Public control of the use of the natural environment may comprise direct control in the form of laws and order; another approach is to apply indirect measures in the form of taxes, charges, and the like.
