ABSTRACT

The ability to publish (or self-publish) a huge amount of information online has resulted not surprisingly in a wide variety of formats, ranging from those which have their origins in professional modes of publishing that pre-date the Internet to those that are resolutely amateur and experimental. While it is theoretically possible to publish information in any number of formations, what is significant is that a few tried-and-tested genres or forms have begun to emerge: many of these, such as the inevitable homepage, are understandably very wide and loose categories, but it is also the case that with genres such as portals and web logs (blogs) even casual cyberspace readers will have some idea what to expect.
