ABSTRACT
Microbiology Enteroviruses are the commonest cause of viral meningitis. The three primary bacterial pathogens are Neisseria meningitidis, Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae capsulate type b (Hib). Group B streptococci and Escherichia coli are the main causes of neonatal meningitis.
