ABSTRACT
There has been a movement lasting more than three decades to include teaching and learning in schools which promotes ‘thinking skills’. The idea underlying the movement is that there is a wide range of generic, transferable skills which are certainly ‘learnable’ and probably teachable-they are not innate and unchanging (see intelligence), but can grow and develop in the right environment and with the right teaching and learning interventions.
