ABSTRACT
Heinz Koeppler’s early experience made vivid the evils of nationalist excess. Prussian in territory disputed by Poland, Jewish in a Germany commandeered by Hitler, exiled in Britain and later a British citizen, he had what the RussianFrench writer Romain Gary called, in the title of his novel about World War II air aces, ‘Une éducation européenne’.
