For the therapist treating compulsive eating, concern for the client’s physical health is always a primary consideration. The notion that people of all sizes can be healthy has gained acceptance in recent years, and these findings have significant implications for your clients’ goals related to achieving physical wellbeing. Research in the area of the effect of weight on health is constantly changing and often contradictory. The goal of this chapter is to provide information based on the work of a variety of experts that will help you evaluate what you read or hear about the links between fat and health and provide strategies that you can use with your clients to move them toward greater physical health at any size.
