Many people decide that a gated community provides the safety and amenities they are looking for in retirement. Retirees, however, have other concerns as well, including the layout of the house and the social life of the community. Ruth Roth, for instance, chose Manor House on Long Island even before her husband’s retirement in preparation for the kind of living they would want in ten years.
