ABSTRACT

IN 1986 THE GOVERNMENT launched a campaign to “rectify errors and negative tendencies.” The campaign stressed values and organizing principles somewhat akin to those of the late 1960s rapid “push for communism,” when many of Ché Guevara’s philosophical ideas were put into practice: moral incentives, an expansion of the state’s role in the economy, and collective and voluntary labor. The national leadership argued that the revolution had gone astray and that the Rectification Process (RP) would correct this.
