ABSTRACT
The first reports of bacteriological warfare in the China Monthly Review appeared within the context of a larger campaign calling attention to the savage nature of the air war in Korea and in the midst of charges and counter charges of atrocities. It was at first an incidental addition to a litany of horror stories, most of which involved aerial bombardment and strafing of civilian centers and the widespread use of napalm by American attack aircraft. Although most news stories were drawn from the available Communist news sources, whenever applicable, Powell utilized American press or wire service reports, along with corroborating testimony extracted from U.S. servicemen (under duress) in Chinese POW camps.
