ABSTRACT

Powell had revived his father’s China Weekly Review in December, 1945 with the intention of supporting U.S. China policy and the desire to further American interests in China. After the U.S. attempt to promote a coalition government and to prevent renewed fighting between the Guomindang and the Chinese Communist Party broke down in late 1946, Powell and the Review supported student and faculty demonstrations for peace and hoped for a return to the bargaining table.
