After completing my general psychiatric training, I decided that I wanted to pursue a career in child and adolescent psychiatry. Already I had realised that I could not pursue a career in adult psychiatry where, as far as I could see, the dominance of biopsychiatry meant becoming a glorified pharmacist, dispensing medication.
