ABSTRACT

In Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and Boston, Born To Run sold more in advance than any other album in history. In D.C., orders tripled those for Elton John’s current record. Born To Run made Record World’s Top Ten its first week out (something only Led Zeppelin and Elton John had done previously), selling well even in a few areas where Springsteen had not often performed. The demand was so heavy, in fact, that FM airplay was saturated with Springsteen for more than two weeks, with nearly every station in the country reporting that they had programmed it.
