ABSTRACT
Evidence for the first human settlement of the Mediterranean Basin is by its very nature sparse. This sparseness leads to a number of problems, not least in pinpointing the initial time and location of settlement. Therefore, the data and interpretations based upon them tend to be controversial and may change rapidly as new discoveries, analysis and interpretations are made.
