ABSTRACT

Drugs constitute a major problem, seldom explored by economic analysis. What, in fact, can economic analysis contribute to the study of the social impact of drugs? What can the reader expect to learn, aside from the fact that the tools of economic analysis also apply to drugs, which, we admit, only constitute satisfaction in the eyes of an audience already convinced of the value of this discipline? Illegal drugs raise a fairly general problem. How should society regulate merchandise whose private value is superior to its social value? This definition includes not only drugs, but also other merchandise usually referred to as vice: gaming, alcohol, prostitution, etc.
