ABSTRACT
Most seawaters are similar with respect to the types and amounts of dissolved salts; the typical salt content is 3·5% by weight (35 g/ liter or 35 parts per thousand parts), and the principal ions present are Na+, Mg2+, Cl-, and (SO4)2-. The average composition of seawater is shown in Table 2.1.
