ABSTRACT

Unlike its counterpart in Westminster, the Scottish Parliament has a fixed four-year mandate and on 1 May 2003 voters went to the polls to elect MSPs for a second term to run from 2003 to 2007. How would they react to a Labour-Liberal Democratic coalition headed by the third First Minister in four years? What would be the impact of British participation in the invasion of Iraq? What would the election be about and how would the leading opposition party, the SNP, fare? How many people would vote? This short epilogue considers the issues, the campaign, the result and the significance of the verdict of voters for the work of the second Scottish Parliament.
