ABSTRACT

The use of teams in organizations in general and interdisciplinary teams in particular is on the rise (Galbraith, 2009). The term interdisciplinary teams is used to denote teams that include team members from multiple disciplines or departments in an organization working together. The term interdisciplinary teams is contrasted with multidisciplinary teams. Much of the literature indicates that multidisciplinary teams include members of multiple disciplines but focuses on complementary contributions, whereas interdisciplinary teams require going beyond complementary contributions and to integrative work (Fiore, Hoffman, & Salas, 2008; Korner, 2010).
