ABSTRACT

This list of prisoners is given in Harley MSS. 6848, ff. 20 verso-21 recto. It is printed in Edward Arber’s book, An Introductory Sketch to the Martin Marprelate Controversy, 1588-1590, pages 38-40. The list provides information about twenty-six persons, informs us that they were incarcerated in six prisons, and enables us to know which of the persons imprisoned in 1587 were still in custody. Seven persons who were imprisoned on October 8, 1587, still are in prison, and four have died; there are fifteen new names, of which two have died.
