ABSTRACT
There are two important Codes that have been issued by the Commission, one on employment (EHRC 2011a) and one on equal pay (EHRC 2011b).
3.2 The protected characteristics Section 4 of the Equality Act 2010 lists the nine protected characteristics with which the Act is concerned. These are further defi ned in sections 5-12. The protected characteristics are:
Age – a person belonging to a particular age group is protected. Age group means persons of the same age or persons of a range of ages, so an age group could be the ‘over fi fties’ or just ‘fi ftyyear-olds’ or ‘twenty-one-year-olds’.
