ABSTRACT
In this chapter I will explore the two moral panics relating to bad language discussed in this book, one which began in the 1690s and another which began in the 1960s. In doing so, I want to achieve two things. First, I want to demonstrate how a corpus of writings representing a moral panic can be used to rapidly and effectively populate a model of the discourse of moral panics. Second, I wish to characterise, compare and contrast the two moral panics in question, in part to see how bad language is represented in them.
