ABSTRACT

Imagine for a moment that you are a concert violinist. You have a beautiful, finely tuned instrument on which you have spent many thousands of dollars. Obviously, you would do everything in your power to protect this violin, giving it all the care and attention it required. As therapists, we have no other instrument but ourselves. We have spent many thousands of dollars on education and training. We have created a beautiful environment in which to work and invested time and energy in our marketing efforts. Doesn’t it make sense, then, to treat ourselves with the same respect that a musician would offer the violin?
