ABSTRACT

THE second phase of the Relay Assembly Test Room experiment, covering an interval of approximately seven months, was concerned with the effects of various kinds of rest pauses. There were four distinct periods, each of which had a different arrangement of rest périod time. In this chapter there will be reported for each period separately: (I) the experimental conditions introduced, (2) the major events which took place, and (3) the operators’ attitudes. At the end of the chapter the concomitant changes in output will be summarized, and the conclusions which the investigators drew will be presented.
