ABSTRACT

FOLLOWING the studies of rest periods, a new series of experiments was started for the purpose of studying the effect of shortening the working day and week. This third phase of the test room studies was composed of three distinct experimental periods (Periods VIII, IX, and XI) interspersed with three “check” periods (Periods X, XII, and XIII) in which conditions of work similar to those of earlier periods were reinstated. As in the preceding chapter, a description of the major happenings in each period will be given before the results in terms of output are discussed.
