ABSTRACT
In May of 1873 the Clemens party sailed on the Batavia for England. Their group included Livy's old school friend Clara Spaulding, a young man named S.C.Thompson to act as secretary for Clemens, as well as a nurse, Nellie, for fourteen-month-old Susie. On this first voyage for all the women, they got seasick, even little Susie.
