ABSTRACT

By the late '50s, Jerry Herman had achieved success off-Broadway with three musical revues, I Feel Wonderful, Nightcap, and Parade. Gerald Oestreicher, a real-estate magnate, invited the young songwriter to write the score for Milk and Honey. It would be the first Broadway outing for both of them. Playwright Don Appell was also a fan of Jerry's work, and together they conceived the show as a celebration of the then still young state of Israel.
