ABSTRACT

It took almost three centuries from when we had begun to confine mad people (in leper hospitals, jails, general hospitals or special structures) to devise a science to deal with this specific problem. Therefore, most of our knowledge of the world of those people we called from time to time mad, crazy, fool, mentally ill or psychotic stems from observations ‘in captivity’, within the frame of an asymmetrical relationship between a free person and one who is not.2
