ABSTRACT
I made the humdrum observation earlier that we connect our (empirical) terms to their referents by means of procedures. We can recognize sea water by taste: this procedure (tasting a liquid and getting a certain result) is associated with “sea water.” We have also more subtle and complicated methods by which to recognize the presence of sub-atomic particles associated with the names for such particles.
